TOWN JUSTICE

The Town of New Hartford announces an immediate vacancy in the position of Town Justice.  Our busy Town Court meets at least once each week as well as additional trial dates.

TYPICAL MATTERS

Vehicle and Traffic, Penal Law and Local Law Violations, Parking Violations, Small Claims and Landlord Tenant matters are handled by the Court. Attends annual justice training; maintains Court records and prepares activity and financial reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of the New York State Laws including the Penal Law, Construction, Town Local Laws and Codes Laws, Landlord/Tenant Laws, Civil Small Claims, Parking Regulations, Trial and Evidence Rules as well as legal terminology. This position requires a commitment of time and effort, flexible availability, computer skills and an ability to work in conjunction with our other Town Judge and staff. The individuals need to be able to exercise patience and be courteous to all who appear in court.

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Appointment to be based upon educational background as well as experience with a strong preference for experience in the legal field.
